I am working with a client of mine who are in the market for a junior / intermediate estimator based near Camberley.

My client operate mainly in the health care sector but are looking to expand their horizons and branch into new sectors in the new year.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in either mechanical or electrical engineering who is looking to develop their estimating skills in a supportive and dynamic environment.

As a Junior Estimator, you will work closely with senior estimators to prepare cost estimates for projects, ensure that bids are competitive, and help manage the estimation process from start to finish. This role will offer excellent career progression for the right candidate with a strong desire to develop within the industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation of cost estimates for mechanical and electrical projects.
  • Analyze project specifications, drawings, and site conditions to determine material, labour, and equipment requirements.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate tender documents.
  • Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing and quotations.
  • Support the preparation of tender submissions, including reviewing contract documents.
  • Help with the preparation of project budgets and provide updates to senior estimators.
  • Contribute to the development of risk assessments and value engineering solutions.
  • Maintain accurate records and files related to project estimates.
  • Work closely with the project management team to ensure estimates are aligned with project goals.

Key Requirements:

  • A background in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A keen interest in cost estimation and project management.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Previous experience in an estimating or engineering support role (desirable but not essential).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.); experience with estimation software is a plus.
