We're looking for a Senior/Principal Secondary Design Engineer to lead the design and delivery of high-voltage substation projects (33kV-400kV) across the UK. If you have the technical expertise, leadership skills, and passion for sustainable energy, this is your chance to make a real impact.

Locations: London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle and Edinburgh.

What You'll Be Doing

• Leading secondary systems design, including protection, control, and SCADA integration.

• Producing AC/DC schematics, termination diagrams, and cable schedules.

• Ensuring designs comply with UK DNO/TO standards (National Grid, SSEN, etc.).

• Defining protection philosophies, relay settings, and system integration for substations.

• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver seamless substation solutions.

• Mentoring and coaching junior engineers to drive technical excellence.

• Conducting site visits to assess constructability and ensure project success.

What We're Looking For

• Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field).

• Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it).

• Proven experience in secondary substation design for AIS/GIS systems (up to 400kV).

• Expertise in protection philosophies, relay settings, and SCADA integration.

• Strong understanding of UK power industry standards (National Grid, SSEN, etc.).

• AutoCAD proficiency and experience with fault analysis software (ASPEN, DIgSILENT).

Desirable Skills

• IEC 61850 communication protocols and advanced SCADA systems knowledge.

• Experience in renewable energy projects (BESS, offshore wind).

• Python scripting for design automation.
