Your impact to the business:

As the Critical Operations Manager (COM) you will be responsible to oversee a local data center campus. As a key leader, you will report to the Senior Director of Critical Operations and play a pivotal role in maintaining the mechanical, electrical, fire life safety, and core infrastructure systems. The COM will ensure 100% uptime, lead operational initiatives, and manage the site team, comprising Assistant Critical Operations Managers and Critical Operations Technicians (4-12 direct reports).

  • Oversee the safety, performance, and uptime of the entire data center.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for electrical, mechanical, and fire life safety systems.
  • Lead the preventative and corrective maintenance programs and advise senior leadership on site status.
  • Execute and manage site-level efficiency projects while maintaining optimal Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE).
  • Manage vendor relationships, procurement, and billing processes.
  • Prepare and manage CapEx and OpEx budgets, including forecasting.
  • Lead the incident response process and conduct root cause analysis.
  • Conduct internal and external site audits, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Maintain and update comprehensive technical procedures for maintenance, emergency response, and daily operations.
  • Collaborate with construction teams to ensure projects do not impact existing critical operations.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and act as a liaison for all site-level inquiries.
  • Utilize CMS, EPMS, and BMS systems for real-time monitoring and analysis.
  • Implement the Data Center Operations Program, ensuring all staff receive ongoing training and development.

The Necessities:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5-7 years in data center or mission-critical operations.
  • 3-5 years managing facility preventative maintenance programs and leading vendor/project management.
  • Expert-level knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, including UPS, transformers, PDUs, chillers, CRAHs, CRACs, ATS, and pre-action fire systems.
  • In-depth understanding of NFPA70e, NFPA72, NFPA25, and relevant building codes.
  • Proficiency in data center commissioning standards.
  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in data center trending and analysis.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and various database software.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and perform tasks that may require lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in a high-stress, fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Willingness to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, nights, holidays, and be on-call for emergencies.
