As the Engineering Supervisor you will be the responsible person for the direct labour work force on the night sight shifts, ensuring all engineering maintenance including contract work is carried out with high performance and compliance with recommended standards and legislation.

Key duties

  • Ensuring that engineering maintenance, including contract maintenance work is carried out
    · The day-to-day management of the night engineering team and associated craftsperson’s, ensuring that both planned and reactive maintenance tasks are completed and updated within the Estates CAFM system.
    · The implementation and monitoring of safe systems of work, including risk assessments and standard operating procedures.
    · Ensuring that plant and equipment is operated, inspected and maintained in line with the requirements of statutory legislation, regulations and guidance.
    · To assist in the organisation and supervision of the day-to-day maintenance of the hospital site through engineers and sub-contractors.
    · To engage and supervise specialist contract labour and day work labour as required to facilitate planned and reactive maintenance in line with Trust and departmental policies and procedures, ensuring that adequate budgetary control is maintained
    · Manage and control any follow up work arising from reactive work and planned preventative maintenance.
    · Communicate and coordinate with stakeholders as required to facilitate any disruption or interruptions of site services.
    · Control and monitor the quality of maintenance work
    · Assist the estates managers in keeping adequate records necessary for the management of staff and the operation and maintenance of plant, equipment and building services.
    · To assist in the maintenance and development of an efficient planned preventative maintenance programme and estate condition surveys, complete with records of plant and equipment for the hospitals.
    · To be responsible for ensuring that all record drawings and maintenance manuals are correct and kept up to date.
    · To advise the estates manager of any areas where revision of legislation would require an alteration in working methods.
    · To provide assistance to the Estates Management Team in the planning of the hospital estate investment programme, consisting of the preparation of technical feasibility studies, budget costs, working drawings, specifications and contract documents, when required
    · To undertake control of contracts and contractors providing supervision of work to final completion
    · To ensure that maintenance, minor improvements and new work comply with relevant items of statutory legislation and guidance, such as Health Technical Memoranda, Health Building Notes and Building Regulations.
    · To manage minor works requests
    · Planning for estate failure and business continuity

Skills and Qualifications

Essential
Approved engineering qualification to City & Guilds standard with experience of working within a maintenance environment
HNC level or sufficient relevant experience and skills in engineering
Experience with performing various work activities which may be of a complex, demanding, routine or non- routine nature.
Experience in budgetary control
Experience of night working
Experience with use of relevant portable hand tools and equipment competently and safely
Experience with carrying out surveys on plant equipment and building environment fabric for deterioration as required
Experience in engineering operations and maintenance
Previous supervisory / management experience
Sound technical knowledge of the built environment, services, plant and equipment in association with Hospital equipment.
In depth knowledge of complex building services plus hands on capabilities.

Previous experience of Authorised Person duties
Experience in healthcare environment
Use of CAFM systems
Knowledge and understanding across electrical engineering and the built environment
Understanding of requirement of Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012
