The Principal / Associate Sustainability Consultant role will suit an experienced Sustainability consultant, with 10+ years of experience within sustainability & building physics & be a very creative thinker.

The role will involve managing an established, growing Manchester team of Building Physics and Sustainability engineers on a day to day basis, reporting to the two Sustainability Partners and liaising with teams in other offices around the world.

You will be responsible for team resourcing, technical, and financial performance, so a robust financial management understanding is important. Duties will include coordinating fee proposals and bids with the inhouse marketing team, providing technical guidance, and reviewing the activities of the team. You will also take responsibility for business development and networking across multiple industry sectors, providing internal and external market thought leadership, as well as resource management, training and mentoring of junior staff.

You will be responsible for client management and project delivery for our key work streams:

  • Building physics and parametric model services
  • Building performance and operational energy optimisation
  • Certification and compliance
  • Health and wellbeing advice and guidance
  • Net zero carbon services
  • Sustainability design services
  • Sustainable Strategy and Governance

The Skills

Educated to Masters level (or equivalent) in Engineering or the Built Environment, you will have gained relevant practical experience in a similar role, and ideally will have achieved or be working towards chartership status.

You will have demonstrable knowledge and experience of sustainability and building physics, particularly in relation to thermal comfort, passive design, compliance modelling and real operational energy assessments.

Knowledge of dynamic simulation software, mechanical design, UK Building Regulations, Planning issues, climate-based daylighting analysis, operational energy calculation and life cycle carbon costing is highly desirable.

An understanding of financial and resource management is critical.

Given the collaborative and client focussed nature of this role, excellent communication skills and experience of using your initiative to overcome challenges are essential.
