Principal Power Systems Engineer – Critical Systems
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and talented Principal Power Systems Engineer – Critical Systems, to join an industry leading team in my clients London office, to work on the design of some of the most exciting critical systems/data centre projects in Europe as a Principal Power Systems Engineer – Critical Systems.
The Company & Team
I have recruited for this excellent organisation for over 10 years across the globe, placing a large number of engineers at all levels with the business and cannot recommend them any higher. Not only do they have a fantastic reputation for staff retention, engagement and employee satisfaction, inclusion & diversity, they are incredibly passionate about holistic design, offering a wide array of engineering & sustainability services across the globe.
The Critical Systems team play a key role in designing and delivering mission critical environments in multiple international locations. The team works solely in the data centre field, keeping abreast of current best practice while researching breakthrough technologies that shape future trends.
As a leader in this market, my client have been the first within innovative technologies including designing air optimised data centres and are at the forefront of this cooling strategy, which has resulted in attaining the first ever BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating awarded to a data centre and significantly contributed to others achieving LEED ‘Gold’, or even targeting ‘Platinum’ status.
The team are a source of world leading expertise – and offer a pro-active and collaborative approach to skill development, and professional excellence. If you’ve got potential & want to push the boundaries of design, they will help you achieve it!
The Role – Principal Power Systems Engineer – Critical Systems
As part of an established team of expert engineers, and working closely with colleagues of various disciplines, you will prepare both scheme and detailed engineering designs for the power systems for major data centre and other critical systems projects.
The role will suit someone who is already experienced in the design of medium voltage distribution systems. The role will involve working mostly on data centre projects ranging from plant upgrades through to 100MW+ hyper-scale projects. If you are not already a Chartered engineer then you will be supported towards Chartership.
Educated to degree level in Electrical Engineering or a Chartered Electrical Engineer (CEng equivalent), you have gained substantial experience in an Electrical Engineering role within the power systems field preferably in a data centre/critical systems context (UPS, power generation systems, MV / LV switchgear etc.).
You will be conversant in power systems design including grid substations design, CT calculations, differential protection stability slopes and rate of rise voltage calculations.
Proven experience of detailed co-ordination with other design disciplines, and are well-versed in theory behind, and use of, relevant design software including ETAP and/or SKM-PTW MV systems analysis software.
You have proven ability in producing schematic diagrams, fault and discrimination studies, preparing specifications and project reports, carrying out site inspections and surveys, and detail design development, and crucially – you have a passion for accurate design of power systems.
Given the collaborative and client focused nature of this role, excellent communication skills and experience of using your initiative to overcome challenges are essential.
