So, What Did We All Learn?
Needless to say, I’m not the only one who has spent most of 2020 in a COVID-19 bubble, and it’s left us all a little dizzy and wondering where do we go from here. The level of fluidity has amazed me, not only in business but also within ourselves, and our having to adapt to so many changes has forced us all to learn a lot.

Midway through Lockdown (v2) I started to think of the type of rollercoaster we’ve all had to endure, without the option of getting off or saying no to a second ride! I’m not one to sit and reflect but actually I gave myself a little pat on the back and realised a few things
· I crave structure– I have realised just how big a creature of habit I am and when my daily structure is thrown off its axis it takes me a little while to realign. My usual structure of wake, commute, work, return from work has become a distant memory and I don’t know if I am still fully to grips with it. I will admit that switching things up has been interesting but I discovered when the dictators of life are no longer there, I need to be a little firmer with myself to gauge a routine…. (and shamefully not watch The Crown Season 4 in one sitting). Organising my day, one day at a time, has allowed me more thinking space and work towards achieving my goals
· I need to be kinder to myself – and I’m sure you do too! The changes, ups, downs, emotional strain, business strain (and the rest) that we have had to endure this year wasn’t planned and somehow here we are. We may be more frazzled, and actually more enlightened to our own capabilities, but none the less we are here. I made a promise to myself recently that I would take the good days and the bad days as they are… no apologies, no justification, just as they are. Peaks and troughs
· This year hasn’t been a write off – in fact it’s afforded a lot of us something that we rarely afforded ourselves. Time to stand back, pause, regroup and reflect. I know from speaking with candidates and clients throughout this last 9 months nobody’s has had the same story to share through all of this and a lot of people have had time to revaluate work life balance
· We’re better together – Companies, communities, families, all of it. The pockets of stories of people coming together through all of this have paved the way for the future
So, what did I learn? I have learnt that actually I am more capable than I gave myself credit, work life balance is most definitely obtainable, change can be exciting and you can do pretty much anything with the right support network around you
As a recruiter I’ve seen how tough this year has been to the job market , if you’re looking for work or looking to rebuild your team please get in touch… 2020 isn’t over just yet.
