Principal Fire Engineer – UK (Flexible Location)
We are seeking an experienced Principal Fire Engineer to join a growing Fire Engineering team within a multidisciplinary consultancy delivering complex, high-profile projects across the UK.
This is a senior, client-facing role ideal for a technically strong fire engineer who enjoys leading projects, influencing design, and mentoring others.
The Role
You will provide technical leadership across a diverse range of sectors including healthcare, education, commercial, residential, life sciences, and large-scale regeneration projects. Working closely with architects, engineers, and clients, you will shape fire safety strategies from concept through to delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading the delivery of performance-based and prescriptive fire strategies
Providing expert input across all project stages
Overseeing CFD fire and smoke modelling, evacuation modelling, and smoke control strategies
Acting as technical lead on complex, multidisciplinary projects and bids
Engaging directly with clients, design teams, and approval authorities
Supporting business growth and mentoring junior engineers
About You
Proven experience delivering fire strategies for complex buildings
Strong knowledge of UK regulations and standards (ADB, BS 9991, BS 9999, NFPA, EN guidance)
Proficient with tools such as FDS, PyroSim, Pathfinder, or similar
Comfortable leading client discussions and technical workshops
Background in a consultancy and multidisciplinary environment
Qualifications
Degree in Fire Engineering or a related discipline
Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership (IFE or equivalent)
