We’re working with a leading building services consultancy seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their Manchester team. You’ll have the opportunity to work on prestigious and innovative projects across sectors including commercial, healthcare, retail, and residential developments — both in the UK and internationally.

The Role

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you’ll lead multidisciplinary projects from start to finish, ensuring technical excellence and delivering sustainable, high-performance designs. You’ll be client-facing, manage design teams, provide mentorship, and drive innovation and best practice within the mechanical discipline.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical building services projects across multiple sectors.

• Oversee technical delivery, ensuring projects meet quality, compliance, and performance standards.

• Manage interactions with clients, consultants, and project teams.

• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.

• Promote innovation and best practice across the mechanical discipline.

• Support recruitment, retention, and development of engineering talent.

• Represent the company at industry events and maintain professional networks.

About You

• Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent).

• Chartered, or working towards Chartered Status.

• Significant experience in mechanical building services design across regulated sectors.

• Proficient with MagiCAD, Relux, Amtech/EOM, AutoCAD, and Revit.

• Strong leadership and team management skills.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; confident with clients and stakeholders.

• Proactive, collaborative, and passionate about delivering sustainable, technically excellent designs.
