Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Manchester/Leeds
£50,000 – £55,000
Role Purpose
To work effectively as a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you must establish yourself as a key leader within the team through technical expertise, leadership, and mentorship. You will support the development of junior engineers, foster strong client relationships, and lead projects to ensure efficient resource allocation and on-time delivery.
You’ll also be responsible for regularly updating the senior leadership team on project progress, key issues, and noteworthy developments throughout the project lifecycle.
As a senior engineer, you should be well-versed in the latest editions of technical standards relevant to MEP design across multiple sectors. You must be able to clearly articulate these standards to clients and collaborators in both meetings and written communications.
While you’ll often work collaboratively with the wider team, this role also expects you to work independently and, where necessary, take full responsibility for the mechanical aspects of project delivery.
Role and Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality HVAC and public health (PH) design packages.

Effectively manage your resource pool to achieve successful project outcomes.

Produce clear, well-structured technical reports.

Support and mentor junior engineers and technicians, providing leadership and motivation.

Maintain professional development records in line with CIBSE/IMechE requirements.

Conduct detailed site investigations, inspections, and problem-solving.

Develop and manage technical specifications and equipment schedules for projects.

Assist clients with tender evaluations and appraisals.

Identify and address mechanical design constraints.

Communicate and collaborate effectively with internal teams, clients, and other project stakeholders.

Represent the company in design meetings with clients and other construction professionals.

Demonstrate commercial awareness by identifying project changes or new opportunities and escalating them appropriately.

Understand and consider sustainability frameworks such as BREEAM and LEED.

Where applicable, support the commissioning process to ensure systems align with design intent.
Software Capabilities

Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM environments

Familiar with Navisworks

Experience with MagiCAD

Basic understanding of IES Virtual Environment (sufficient to review reports)
