Are you a technical authority in electrical design for data centre and mission-critical infrastructure projects?

Do you have the expertise to lead design and delivery across high-availability power systems for some of the most advanced data centres in the world?

Please note this is an MEP design position, not project management / installation.

Candidates who do not come from a consultancy design background in HVAC design for data centres, will unfortunately be rejected.

THE ROLE

A unique opportunity has arisen for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join a global, multi-disciplinary consultancy at the forefront of data centre MEP design, based in their Dubai office.

This role will suit an MEP Building services Design Engineer from an electrical Design background with natural gravitas and the ability to inspire others. You will be a natural communicator with strong technical MEP Design skills & a strong ambition to provide solutions to global clients.

You’ll lead the electrical design, coordination and technical delivery of hyperscale and colocation data centre projects across the MENA region, working closely with global design teams and high-profile clients.

Key accountabilities include:

• Leading design of high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) power systems for data centres, including transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, standby diesel generators, and static transfer switches (STS).

• Designing resilient power topologies (2N, N+1, N+2) and performing load flow, fault level, harmonic and short-circuit calculations.

• Coordinating with mechanical, ICT and fire disciplines to ensure integrated system design.

• Preparing detailed single line diagrams, power distribution layouts, and control schematics.

• Ensuring compliance with IEEE, IEC, BS, NFPA 70, ISO/IEC 30134, and Uptime Institute Tier Standards.

• Reviewing and approving contractor technical submissions, factory acceptance tests, and commissioning plans.

• Leading client meetings, presenting design strategies, and mentoring electrical engineers within the team.

• You will act as a technical design authority for electrical systems, ensuring best-in-class engineering delivery and global standards of quality and performance.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

Along with the above-mentioned skills and experience, a degree in Mechanical / building services engineering is essential.

Additionally:

• Chartered status is highly desirable through CIBSE / IMechE

• 7–10+ years’ experience in MEP consultancy electrical design for data centres projects.

• In-depth technical understanding of HV/LV distribution, UPS systems, diesel generator systems, power monitoring (EPMS), lighting, fire alarm and earthing/bonding design.

• Familiar with short-circuit, load flow and protection coordination using software such as ETAP / SKM / Amtech.

• Comprehensive understanding of IEC, BS, IEEE, NFPA, Uptime Institute, and ISO/IEC standards.

• Experience delivering Tier III and Tier IV facilities through design to commissioning.

• Resource management experience is critical in this position as you will be managing the design delivery for multiple projects throughout the region & potentially other geographical locations

• Familiarity with international standards (IEEE, NFPA, ASHRAE, IEC, Uptime Institute, ISO/IEC, TIA, BSI).

• Accredited Tier Designer (ATD) certification preferred.

• Superb client facing skills are essential

• Possess a proven, stable and consistent track record in delivering highly technical MEP Design projects within APAC, MENA or Europe.

• The ability to stimulate work regionally through nurturing existing and developing new client relationships
