Are you a mechanically biased MEP leader with a proven record in data centre design, delivery, and business development?

Do you want to shape the future of hyperscale and colocation facilities for the world’s biggest technology firms while leading a fast-growing, specialist design team?

This is your chance to take on a career-defining leadership role with one of the world’s most respected global consultancies; an organisation driving innovation in sustainable, mission-critical engineering projects across EMEA and beyond.

YOUR NEW ROLE

As Mechanical Technical Director – Data Centre Design, you’ll be both a strategic ambassador in the EMEA Data Centre community and a hands-on leader, guiding technical delivery, client development, and team growth.

This is a role with influence, visibility, and autonomy, where you will:

  • Lead and expand a growing UK Data Centre Mechanical/MEP team, mentoring and developing top engineering talent.

  • Act as technical authority for mechanical design in mission-critical facilities (HVAC, refrigeration, chilled water, CRAH/CRAC, liquid cooling, adiabatic cooling, resilience strategies such as N+1/N+N).

  • Provide full oversight of the EMEA technical delivery strategy, setting standards, benchmarks, QA/QC processes, and knowledge transfer across teams.

  • Drive work winning and business development, leveraging a strong pipeline with hyperscale and colocation clients, while creating new opportunities in this fast-expanding sector.

  • Deliver programme management and commercial oversight of major projects, ensuring integrated teams achieve KPIs, profitability, and world-class technical standards.

  • Act as a true client partner, understanding their business models, organisational culture, and market challenges, and proactively shaping engineering solutions to meet evolving needs.

  • Represent the business externally across EMEA as a recognised thought leader in the Data Centre engineering community.

YOUR NEW EMPLOYER

You’ll be joining a global, multi-disciplinary consultancy with:

  • Offices in over 150 countries, delivering transformative infrastructure and engineering projects in every sector.

  • A specialist Data Centre design team in the UK, working closely with international colleagues to deliver seamless projects across Europe and beyond.

  • A culture that values collaboration, innovation, and sustainable engineering, and invests heavily in its people and technology.

  • A proven reputation as a trusted partner to the world’s leading technology companies, delivering complex, high-performance, mission-critical facilities.

YOUR BACKGROUND

You’ll be a Chartered Mechanical Engineer (CEng) with:

  • A strong career background in MEP/Data Centre mechanical engineering delivery, ideally with experience across both UK and EMEA markets.

  • Proven leadership experience overseeing large-scale mechanical/MEP project work streams.

  • Demonstrable experience in client-facing delivery, business development, and work winning with leading technology firms.

  • A detailed knowledge of mechanical building services engineering practices, techniques, and procedures for data centres.

  • Strong commercial acumen and experience managing project financials, risk, and profitability.

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to inspire internal teams and represent the business at senior client level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical, Building Services, or a related discipline.

  • Chartered with CIBSE or equivalent.

  • Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer (ATD) and/or Certified Data Centre Design Professional (CDCDP®).

REMUNERATION & BENEFITS

  • £100k–£120k base salary

  • Hybrid working model

  • Car allowance

  • Medical insurance for self & partner

  • Life assurance

  • Professional subscription paid

  • 25 days annual leave + public holidays

  • Flexible Benefits (including dental, critical illness, gym etc.)

  • Remote access to a GP (one of the most popular appreciated benefits!)
